August 2009 -– Alive author, Dave Dravecky, was honored by the San Francisco Giants on August 10, 2009 at AT&T Park in San Francisco, during a special Comeback Game against the Dodgers, marking the anniversary of his comeback. Twenty years before, on August 10, 1989, a miracle took place as the former major league pitcher, Dravecky, took the mound for the San Francisco Giants. Pitching a winning comeback game after battling cancer in his throwing arm, the win was cited as “one of the most dramatic moments in sports history” by The New York Times.
Although his victory came to a heartbreaking close five days later, Dravecky has influenced millions with his inspiring comeback story in the Alive-repped title Comeback (Zondervan). Alive president, Rick Christian, says of his twenty-year association with the sports hero, “Comeback was the first big book on Alive’s list during our formative years. This is a very special day for him and for us.”– RC
