May 2010 — Alive client Richard Stearns garnered ECPA’s top award – Book of the Year – for his compelling life story, The Hole in Our Gospel (Thomas Nelson). The annual award is based on excellence in content, literary quality, and significance of contribution. Quite a feat for a first-time author.
Stearns is president of World Vision, one of the largest humanitarian organizations dedicated to feed, clothe and educate children worldwide. Ten years ago, he came face-to-face with the question, What does God expect of us?, as he sat in a mud hut in Rakai, Uganda, listening to the heartbreaking story of an orphaned child. His response tore him out of his corner office at one of America’s most prestigious companies to walk with the poorest of the poor in our world.
Stearns joins novelist Karen Kingsbury to become the second Alive client in three years to receive the industry’s highest award. –LH
