October 27, 2010–Long-time Alive client and former SF Giants pitcher Dave Dravecky appeared on the Today Show to discuss how Major League Baseball is supporting “Stand Up To Cancer,” a campaign dedicated to finding a cure and getting treatments to patients more readily.
“In my own journey with cancer, I’m honored to represent my fellow players and fans to rally even more support for others who face cancer, too,” said Dave, whose battle for life was first told in the best-selling book, Comeback.
“That book was published in 1989, the year we launched the agency,” said Rick Christian, Alive’s president. “It was the first high-profile book we had the privilege of working on, and the Dravecky’s went on to write many others that have provided foundational help and encouragement to those struggling with cancer and depression,” he added.
Dave and his wife Jan now live in the Denver area and head Endurance (www.endurance.org), whose mission is to serve suffering people, especially those with cancer and amputation. –RC
