Memorial Donations:

True to Lee’s nature, he established a meaningful way to help a friend benefit from his death. The following was written by Lee about a month ago:

Dear Friends,

In lieu of sending flowers to my funeral, the question has been raised if there is an organization that I would prefer any memorial donations to be sent to. Certainly feel free to let your own heart guide on this with my thanks.
Out of respect to the question, however, I do have a preference I’d like to share for your consideration. I’m asking that any monies be directed to meet a particular need. And for someone I’ve known for most of my life. Let me introduce you to Dean.

Lee Hough with LaVelda and Dean Boehm

Lee Hough with LaVelda and Dean Boehm

Forty plus years ago I had volunteered with an organization in Ft. Worth,Texas to help physically and /or mentally challenged children and adults. Dean was born with cerebral palsy, a condition that affects the part of the brain that controls muscle movement and speech development. Dean’s mind is clear as a bell, but because of his impaired physical movements, he requires help with daily living activities such as all his hygienic needs, dressing, feeding and mobility. Those limitations required Dean’s parents (Jim and LaVelda) to be his lifelong caregivers, which they devoted themselves to wholeheartedly. But Dean lost his dad to cancer in 2006 and now the full burden of caring for Dean, including all the lifting and constant daily physical demands has fallen on LaVelda alone and she’s 80 years old.

One other quick note about Dean: In 1977 he lobbied members of Congress to pass legislation paving the way for the landmark American Disabilities Act (ADA).

Nothing would give me more joy as a final act together with many of you for any memorial donations to be given to help Dean and LaVelda. All tax deductible gifts designated for Dean can be sent to:
