Rod Gragg is an author, historian, and journalist. He has authored nine books on military history, including Covered with Glory: The 26th North Carolina Infantry at Gettysburg (HarperCollins), for which he won the first Dr. James I. Robertson, Jr. Prize for Confederate History; Confederate Goliath: The Battle of Fort Fisher (HarperCollins), for which he won the Fletcher Pratt Award from the New York City Civil War Round Table as the best Civil War book of the year; and A Commitment to Valor: A Character Portrait of Robert E. Lee (Rutledge Hill Press).
Gragg has also been awarded the Douglas Southall Freeman Award for history. His books have been selected for Book-of-the-Month clubs, the History Book Club, and the Military History Book Club. Additionally, Gragg is the producer of “War Memories-Remembering the Second World War,” which aired regionally for ten years on South Carolina’s award-winning PBS affiliate.
Gragg is the son of a World War II veteran. He and his wife have seven children and live in South Carolina.
